Mr Corkish -
To improve my work further on 'Day in the life of a sky', I need to find and research about one certain photographer who works doing the same area of photography as I am doing. When I do this I will then be able to relate to that photographer in my critique, and will be able to analyse their work against mine. WWW-Really creative shots! You have visually understood the work of photoraphers investigated. Your Weston inspired work is strong. Good understanding of composition and lighting to produce dramatic shadows.
EBI-Too many sub-menus on your website, keep it simple - 1 page for each project, all work on the same page. To improve my work I need to change the layout of my website so that each project is only on one page, I need to do this so that my work is easy to find and also easy to get to and read. It will help the organisation of my website. This term we have started to focus on The Alphabet Project, The photographs we take are inspired by Jennifer Blakeley. jennifer Blakely is a professional photographer who takes various photographs of different topics but also mainly takes pictures inspired by the alphabet. When i take my photographs, I would like the letters I'm trying to find to be created out of shadows.
During these last few weeks, we have been working on Edward Weston and also 'Good and Bad' photography. First we had to look at his work and see how he is able to create the sort of photography he is able to so that we could create some of our own inspired by our work. One of his famous pieces was his work with a pepper, where he shined a torch onto the pepper to create shadowing. When he did this, it made the pepper look like a whole new object. We have done 2 shoots inspired by him and one homework piece in the style of Edward Weston. When we chose to do the photography we first had to get a pepper. I then chose to have ab black background because it made the whole scene a lot darker and the shadowing effect much more visible. We then placed the pepper on the paper and tried to recreate his work, to do this you had to shine artificial light on certain places on the pepper to create contrast and shadowing. We also changed the camera to AV so that it turned to auto focus. After we had taken the photographs we tried to make it look even more like Edward Weston's work by going onto Photoshop and changing the contrast to black and white. This also showed the shadows a lot more.
Teacher feedback - Weston Peppers WWW: Good examples of Weston inspired peppers. Vivid colours, good contrast of light by using a torch to create shadows. EBI: Use a gallery element to upload work for your pages - make it neater and takes up less space. In what way could you develop your work to look more that of Westons? Photography updateSo far in our GCSE photography, we ave learnt how to create light trails and how to use aperture in a photograph (shown in our 'miniature world' photography). When we did light trails we were taught how to change the shutter speed so that the photograph was taken over a number of seconds, meaning that a trail would appear where we had moved the light to create an image. After our light trails photography project, we moved onto a Miniature World project, this is where we got soldiers figures and made a story with them while giving the impression that they were normal sized. Aperture was used in the photograph to either create a deep depth of field or a shallow depth of field.
progressSo far we have been focusing on light trails. We have taken various different photograph while using light trails. We have used different themes while doing this project including, words, nature and cars. We made these photographs by changing the length of the shutter speed, and using phones and torches to create the light trail. To create the photographs we had to stay in a dark room so that the torch light could come through.
