Jennifer Blakeley
Canadian photographer Jennifer Blakeley - is the creative process of photographing images that resemble letters of the English alphabet, then arranging the photographs together to create a name or word. Inspired by the children’s book “Alphabet City,” Blakely traveled across Canada taking photos of objects and scenery that resemble letters of the English alphabet and has now turned those photos into a thriving online business, Alphabet Photography Inc. Blakeley develops the photos in sepia tone and customises the photographs to spell names and words that are special to each individual customer - creating alphabet art. The letter art business, in which Blakely is partnered with her husband Sam Blakeley and friend Miriam Laundry, functions primarily online - allowing customers to mix and match the alphabet photos to create any name or word. To see how all this works, head to the website below.
This is a mood board I have created to show my favourite examples of work inspired by the alphabet project. I chose these photographs because you can clearly see what the image is and you can also build your work from the photographs. These photographs were found on Pinterest and are not taken/produced by Jennifer Blakeley. These could be other photographers looking at her work and then taking photographs inspired by her work. In these photographs they are all in black and white which is another piece of evidence that these pieces are inspired by Jennifer Blakeley because her work is also edited into black and white. I am going to try and make my photographs look like this.
Critical Analysis of Jennifer Blakeley
Experimental shoot 1
These are my first set of examples for my alphabet project. X U T
The photographs are inspired by Jennifer Blakeley's work. On this set of work I wasn't focusing on shadows but only on finding an object that looks similar to the letter I'm trying to find.
